AoA navigation

Precise positioning indoors by determining the position of an object by the angle of the received bluetooth signal on the locator - Angle of Arrival (AoA). Navigation accuracy up to 1 meter.

Indors Navigation locators use patented algorithms of angular estimation and signal processing for indoor positioning. As a result, high accuracy of navigation and tracking of movements on the object is achieved.

Technologically, the AoA solution works via Bluetooth 5.1 protocol and is not yet supported by many mobile devices, so special tags and beacons of this standard are used.

The use of AoA positioning allows you to save on the maintenance of BLE sensors (replacement of batteries) and increase the accuracy of navigation in buildings.

However, the installation and configuration of AoA locators is more complicated and more expensive than BLE balls, since it requires the connection of an Ethernet cable (POE) and is installed on the ceiling of the room.

Application of AoA technology for indoor positioning
Navigation: With the help of AoA technology, it is possible to accurately determine the location of a person with an application installed on a mobile phone that supports Bluetooth 5.1, show a point on the map and guide along the route in real time.
Tracking movements: AoA technology helps to track personnel, tangible assets and goods accurately enough in your building or room, where other technologies are not accurate enough: BLE 4.0-5.0, Wi-Fi, GPS or their use is limited.
Analytics: Using solutions based on the BLE 5.1 protocol and Angle of Arrival technology, it is possible to collect fairly accurate "live" statistics and indicators about the behavior of visitors in the room, and visual heat maps will demonstrate the distribution throughout the building.
AoA Positioning technology The method of operation of AoA positioning solutions for indoor navigation is based on the principle of measuring the angular directions of the radio signal (azimuth and altitude) by a locator installed in a certain place of the building. The angle at which the signal meets the receiver in the locator is measured by calculating the phase of the received radio signals. The use of BLE tracking by AoA technology is suitable for almost any area and gives a relatively high positioning accuracy from 0.5 to 1 meter.

Accurate asset tracking is used in various fields, such as manufacturing, logistics and healthcare, where determining the location of production equipment, instruments or medical devices is an important part of the effective functioning of a business. The AoA solution also allows you to identify closely located objects.

How AoA Positioning works

Deploying a solution based on Angle of Arrival technology takes more time and effort than the already familiar solutions based on positional BLE sensors (beacons).

The editor of the Indoor Navigation Platform develops a map of your object on which you need to organize navigation.

IN-AR AoA locators are installed on the ceiling in the room (in accordance with technical requirements) and connected to the IN-AoA-G UTP gateway via an Ethernet port cable. The gateway must be connected to the Internet.

Up to 4 locators can be connected to one gateway, each of which has 12 antennas covering a zone with a radius of 15-20 meters. The coverage range of one set of equipment from the gateway and 4 AOA locators is about 1000 m2.

Using AoA technology, it is possible to determine the position of mobile devices that support Bluetooth 5.1 and BLE 5.1 beacons that are issued to personnel or attached to equipment that needs to be monitored at the facility. The form factors of beacons and tags are different: blaslets, smatr watches, badges, key chains, mini sensors. Depending on the task, suitable AoA tags are selected.

IN-AR locators receive signals from beacons and send them to the IN-AoA-G gateway, which processes the received data and transmits it to the server.

Based on the algorithms we have developed, the server calculates the coordinates from each label and displays the location on the map.
