AoA navigation
Accurate indoor positioning by determining the position of an object based on the angle of the received bluetooth signal to the locator — Angle of Arrival (AoA). Navigation accuracy is up to 1 meter.
Indoors Navigation locators use proprietary algorithms for angular estimation and signal processing for indoor positioning. As a result, high accuracy of navigation and tracking of movements on the object is achieved.
Technologically, the AoA solution uses Bluetooth 5.1 protocol and is not yet supported by many mobile devices, so special tags and beacons of this standard are used.
Using AoA positioning allows you to save on the maintenance of BLE sensors (battery replacement) and increase the accuracy of navigation in buildings.
However, the installation and configuration of AoA locators is more difficult and more expensive than BLE balls, as it requires the connection of an Ethernet (POE) cable and is installed on the ceiling of the room.
Application of AoA technology for indoor positioning
Navigation
Using AoA technology, it is possible to accurately determine the location of a person with an application installed on a mobile phone that supports Bluetooth 5.1, show a point on the map and guide the route in real time.
Tracking movements
AoA technology helps to accurately track personnel, tangible assets, and goods in your building or premises where other technologies are not accurate enough: BLE 4.0-5.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, or their use is limited.
Analytics
Using solutions based on the BLE 5.1 protocol and Angle of Arrival technology, it is possible to collect fairly accurate "live" statistics and indicators about the behavior of visitors indoors, and visual heat maps will demonstrate the distribution throughout the building.
AoA positioning technology
The method of operation of AoA positioning solutions for indoor navigation is based on the principle of measuring the angular directions of the radio signal (azimuth and altitude) with a locator installed in a specific location of the building. The angle at which the signal meets the receiver in the locator is measured by calculating the phase of the received radio signals.
The use of BLE tracking using AoA technology is suitable for almost any area and provides relatively high positioning accuracy from 0.5 to 1 meter.
Accurate asset tracking is used in various fields, such as manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare, where locating production equipment, instruments, or medical devices is an important part of the effective functioning of a business. The AoA solution also allows you to identify nearby objects.

Indors Navigation Integration Experiment AoA positioning
Over the course of several months, our staff has developed a special algorithm for determining the position in the room based on the angle of arrival of the radio signal — Angle of Arrival (AoA). In one of the rooms of the building, we installed 4 IN-AR locators, which were connected to one IN-AoA gateway.…
High-precision positioning based on the angle of arrival of the signal. Angle of Arrival (AoA)
In 2021, Indors Navigation integrated a module into the GIS system of the Interiors Navigation Platform that supports the technology for determining the position of an object in a room by the angle of arrival of a Bluetooth signal — Angle of Arrival (AoA).
