Navigation at the YAROD Clinic

Digitalization of medical institutions makes it possible to raise the level of patient care, creating maximum comfort of stay and a positive user experience.
Visitors to medical institutions often face difficulties in finding the right office or ward. The presence of several buildings and passageways forces patients to waste extra time.

In 2025, Indoors Navigation integrated its geographic information system, the Indoors Navigation Platform, at a large medical facility in the city of Yakutsk – Yakutsk Regional Oncological Dispensary (YAROD), demonstrating its usefulness in the industry. The YAROD management had a request to create a modern hospital patient tracking system and create a mobile navigator with a convenient search for visitors.

Description

The project was completed on a turnkey basis and included the development of Working Documentation, the creation of a digital twin of the hospital, the supply of equipment, installation and commissioning, and staff training on how to work with the system at the facility.

More than 300 BLE locators and more than 200 navigators were installed in the hospital building to track the movement of patients and medical equipment. The necessary network infrastructure was deployed on 20 POE switches located in 10 server rooms. The installation work took 2 working weeks, and more than 15 kilometers of UTP cable were stretched.

Usage examples

In the platform's editor, based on drawings, we recreated an exact copy of the real Dispensary building with all the corridors, passageways, offices, and even the location of furniture, and obtained a highly detailed digital twin of the medical facility. We have added the main points of interest (POIs) and the most frequently requested areas by visitors.

Now visitors have received the YAROD mobile application with an interactive 3D map, a convenient system for finding the cabinet and guiding them along the route. A convenient feedback channel with the clinic administration and regular hospital news. The user can move along the route both in map mode and in augmented reality by scanning the QR code. Due to the 360 panoramas, the visitor can get acquainted with the interiors of the outpatient clinic in advance and launch a tour.

The application is available on mobile devices, on installed interactive terminals (infomats), and on the website of the medical facility. If the visitor does not have a mobile app installed, they can use QR navigation by scanning the QR code, and a map with their location will open in the browser.

Due to the fact that we have attached a Navitag tag to each ward, or rather to its patient, in the platform, the administrator sees in the control panel where the patient of the hospital is at the moment and gets the entire history of movements: in which rooms and when he was, how much time he spent, what procedures and diagnoses he attended.

And patients can call for help by clicking on the feedback button on the wristband. Doctors will quickly find the required medical equipment on a map in a mobile application or through a search engine, plotting the shortest route.

General Director of Indoors Navigation LLC

"The Yakutsk regional cancer dispensary has become an example of how smart navigation transforms the work of a medical institution. We have not just implemented our GIS INP - we have created a digital ecosystem where every element, from patient navigation to equipment tracking, works to improve the quality of treatment. It is especially valuable that our solution now helps people in a difficult period of their lives. This is exactly the case when technology works for the most important thing – people's health."

S.A. Myreeva

Deputy Chief Physician of YAROM for organizational and methodological work

"Our dispensary is actively developing digital technologies, and the new navigation system has become a logical continuation of this process. It is integrated into the overall IT ecosystem of the dispensary, which allows patients to easily navigate the building, and staff to quickly manage flows. The system works in real time and significantly reduces the time needed to find the right cabinet. We are sure that patients will appreciate the convenience and ease of use."

Results

The introduction of a modern navigation and patient tracking system at the medical facility allowed the creation of a single information service that optimized the work of the dispensary.:

  • A positive customer experience through the use of a mobile app with navigation.
  • Distribution of the burden on doctors and patient flows due to a convenient search and cartography system.
  • Reducing the burden on staff when monitoring hospital patients through a modern movement tracking system and notifications when designated areas or procedures are not visited.

The mobile app

With the help of a mobile application, a visitor to the Yakutsk Republican Oncological Dispensary can quickly determine his location and understand where he is in the building. Find the right doctor's office or treatment room and get directions.

The mobile navigator will guide the route in real time in an optimal way, providing information about the points of interest of the medical institution. A visitor can quickly figure out which passage is more convenient to go to the desired ward in the hospital, where to find a medical post or find out the schedule of the clinic's doctors.
